   Examples of maps

Concept maps are never "just drawings".

Therefore, these maps are not in a simple image format. Instead they have been produced with Knowledge Master, for higher quality and functionality.

These maps correspond to the respective author's criteria and points of view. There are no limits to the creation of maps, only the author's imagination can establish the limits.

If you want to see or interact with these maps and do not own the corresponding user's license, you may download the current software version for a trial period.

To download any of the beneath listed maps, just the its name to download the file in your computer. Afterwards, double click the file icon: Knowledge Master will import it (you must only choose the disk to store it).

Example maps for organizations and business

Knowledge base: "Project" (9 k)

A small project for the construction of a city is presented. Activity network has associated some project documentation (croquis, texts, annotations, Internet links, etc.). The map is already structured in dimensions (layers). Project tables have already been created and associated to the map, with dates, durations, cost data, and others.

This kind of knowledge organization can be compared to that of a business procedure or a production process, that can also be endowed with logic.

This map can be used as an example for companies, other organizations and specialized schools that deal with this kind of contents.

If when working with tables and paths and their associated operations, the need for the manual arouses, please ask our support service for the manual.

Other examples about procedures, system states and others, related to cognitive organizational activity (enterprise, government, consulting, etc.) using the IDEF3 standard are presented in our online course "Knowledge Management in Organizations".

Example maps for schools

pioggia-ok.jpg
Concept map "The water" (46 k)

Knowledge representation about the water cycle and physicochemical characteristics of water. Primary school level. Paths: 6.

salamandra1.jpgConcept map "Amphibians" (741 k)

Knowledge about the class Amphibians, some of its members, reproduction and metamorphosis. Elementary school level.
Contains 5 images and some sounds associated to the concept "croaking". Paths: 2.

lingua.gifConcept map "Language" (15k)

Available paths: 2.

lingua.gifConcept map "Phonics" (6k)

A successful example of implementation of the Phonics method for English language learning. Please install some of our English voices, switch it on, and select "Semantic paths". Create your exercises for teaching or self-learning. You can enrich with texts, images or multimedia. Phonics, on Knowledge Master, is an open and extensible method. Different from "canned" strategies, it can be customized to suit specific goals and circumstances, at lower cost and with greater effectiveness.

This map is built on layers ("dimensions"), so it can grow indefinitely without affecting perception.
Available paths: 4.

Atom.gif
Concept map "Matter" (87 k)

With this map, we don't want to present an exhaustive point of view on the "matter" concept but just to offer a starting point  and a simple example of concept map on the topic.

Deep mathematical, physical or philosophic insights have not been included aiming at  presenting the topic in a mode that may be useful to every level, leaving to teachers, professors and students the adjustments to specific needs, in the necessary direction.

Most concepts (43/47) have a descriptive text. Some concepts such as "atom", "atomic weight" and "periodic table" have associated a document that exemplifies, expands or complements the concept.

For ease, and mostly just because, concepts have been distributed in two dimensions, though it could have been done in more than two, gaining a lower density in the main level.

Concepts have been typified to enhance user perception. No concept has been represented with an image: it has been the author's decision.

This map is given free, without cost and it may be freely distributed. If you are interested in this topic and you adapt it anyhow, you can do the same: make it available to the others, it is a full social revenue.

Dracula.gif
Comparison diagram "Monster comparison" (8 K) Frankestein.gif

Comparison is a universally recognized analysis method in whichever discipline or matter. The objects to compare may be people, things or events.

This a demo of a simple "monsters" comparison. As a base for the fast construction of the map,  the "Comparison" template has been used; monsters compared in the map are Dracula and Frankenstein, and instead of names, pictures have been used; in both sides of the map the respective differences are placed, and similarities at the center. As all maps, this can be enriched with descriptive texts, images and videos. There's no limit to the number of comparison attributes.

  Concept map "Senses" (323 k)

This is a knowledge base about senses, for the elementary school level. To obtain a single map covering the full subject, it has been built in layers, a layer for each sense.

Some concepts have a descriptive text and there is a semantic path.

planet.gif
Knowledge base "Ozone" (4,5 M)

This knowledge base comprises most relevant concepts related to ozone, such as a benefit and as a pollutant, with some extent to environmental pollution. Most relevant concepts have some multimedia support: 11 images, 3 videos and an HTML page with two more images.

Most concepts (25 at all) have a descriptive text.

This map is given at no cost and is freely distributable.

If you are interested in this subject and make meaningful changes to this map, we ask you to do the same: make it available to all, for social wealth and culture.

dino.gif
Concept map "The dinosaurs" (2.1 M, in Italian)

The world of dinosaurs has caught the public's attention with the film "Jurassic Park", and ever since, specialists and amateurs of the dinosaurs all around the world dedicate their time to search for (and discover) new archeological deposits.

This map wants to offer a "scientific enough" approach that, starting from some categories and generic information, consents referring to time and space coordinates these "monsters" that hit our fantasy because of their look and names.

The map is structured in 5 levels and composed of 91 concepts, and is illustrated with images and photographs, that render it pleasant and interesting.

DirCiv.gifThe "Italian civil law" v. 1.0 (251.0 K, in Italian)

This conceptual knowledge base, worked out by Dr. Carlo Sia, lawyer, with the contribution of Maura Govi, contains most relevant concepts of the Italian civil law in a concept map structured in 19 layers.

Most concepts are supported with descriptive text and a congruous number of documents for a deeper insight. The capability of full text and semantic searching largely improves this document, important for students or people interested in the topic, and as an advanced starting point for law professionals and research groups.

It does not pretend to be an exhaustive work, but it surely is a good starting point: in fact, this product may be redeveloped and adapted to suit specific or personal needs of students and researchers.

This map, being an initial version, is distributed free to licensed users of Knowledge Master.

Kasko.gif
Knowledge base "The First World War" (complete - 888 k, in Italian)

This map is a useful approach to the events and circumstances that characterized the First World War, for students of junior and senior High School.

Using this map, the student can grasp a wider and deeper vision than with the simple sequence of events, and understand the causes and effects of this particular historical event, for Europe and for the whole world.

Every concept that requires it, has been assigned with a descriptive text for deeper insight; besides, some concepts have some meaningful text and image documents associated

For clarity and mnemonics, concepts have been grouped in categories, with a specific graphical aspect, and all relations have been defined, to also improve semantic searching.

Naturally, this map may be modified and adapted  by instructors to fit curriculum.

This is an initial version and is freely distributed to all Knowledge Master licensed users.
