Notes about the proposed cognitive strategy

1. This method is used with success in many countries to achieve or improve learning with some learning limitations.

2. Being a genuinely cognitive technology, based on the principles of cognitive psychology, it can be used indistinctly by people with limitations or by the gifted.

3. Used at school, it becomes an integration resource, because students are not discriminated when using KM.

4. Nevertheless the advanced contents, the course is presented in a simple and accessible language. New terms are explained with detail and graphically.

From perception to cognition, learning with active maps.

4. Learning and its limits: main deficit areas and their clinical evolution [1 week]

Main areas of cognitive functioning in which learning and processing may be limited.

5. Dyslexia and learning [2 weeks]

5-1 Characteristics of information processing in dyslexics

Decoding meaning: text reading and map "reading" compared.

5-2 Technology reachable educational goals

Maps as instruments for visual thinking development in dyslexics

Characteristics and cognitive style of people affected with ADD-H

Educational path: progressive experiences with KM concept map functions.

7. Mental retardation and learning [1 week]

KM concept maps as cognitive processes stimulation tool.

Effects on the mild mental retardation clinical picture.

Educational path: some specific proposals for learning through the interaction with maps.

8. Sensorial deficits and learning [2 weeks ]

8-1 Clinical picture and available resources en KM cognitive technology for deafness

From conceptualization to representation: from conceptual coherence to graphical and logical coherence.

11. Experimenting map creation in education [1 week]

Creating maps for different student typologies, starting from the same topic, prepared by the educator.
